Engineers are responsible for executing tasks under supervision, developing technical skills, and contributing to project deliverables.

This is an entry-level, hands-on engineering role ideal for graduates with a strong technical background who are looking to build a career in the photonics industry.

The Engineer works closely with multidisciplinary teams in areas such as process engineering, device design, testing, and cleanroom operations.

Key Functions

  • Execute assigned tasks in the design, simulation, and layout of integrated photonic devices using GaN.
  • Assist in the design, simulation, and layout of GaN-based photonic and optoelectronic devices (e.g., LEDs, laser diodes).
  • Support process development and optimization for GaN-based device fabrication.
  • Participate in technical reviews and internal training.
  • Conduct data analysis and contribute to technical documentation and reporting.
  • Collaborate with process engineers and designers to troubleshoot device performance and yield issues.
  • Follow cleanroom protocols and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
  • Document results and follow quality and safety standards.
  • Execute tasks in the design, simulation, and layout of GaN-based photonic and optoelectronic devices (e.g., LEDs, laser diodes).
  • Support process development and optimization for GaN-based device fabrication.
  • Conduct data analysis and contribute to technical documentation and reporting.
  • Collaborate with process engineers and designers to troubleshoot device performance and yield issues.
  • Ensure proper documentation and compliance with cleanroom, safety, and quality standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of experiments, measurements, and fabrication steps.

Required Education

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Applied Physics, Photonics, Materials Science, Optoelectronics, or a related field.
  • Academic or research experience in III-V semiconductors or photonic integration is highly valued.

Technical Skills

  • Solid understanding of semiconductor physics, photonics, and optoelectronic device principles.
  • Familiarity with GaN-specific fabrication processes
  • Experience with photonic design and simulation tools such as:
  • KLayout, Cadence, or IPKISS
  • Lumerical (FDTD, MODE)
  • COMSOL Multiphysics
  • Knowledge of PDKs (Process Design Kits) and DRC (Design Rule Checking).
  • Hands-on experience with optical/electrical test setups and equipment (e.g., optical spectrum analyzers, probe stations, power meters).
  • Experience with device simulation tools (e.g., Lumerical, Silvaco, COMSOL) for optical, electrical, and thermal modeling.
  • Programming/scripting skills in Python, MATLAB, or similar for data analysis and automation.
  • Familiarity with cleanroom fabrication processes: photolithography, etching, deposition, metallization, wafer bonding, etc.
  • Proficiency in technical English, both written and spoken.

Personal Attributes:

  • Strong teamwork and communication skills in a multidisciplinary and international environment.
  • Analytical thinking and a structured approach to problem-solving.
  • High attention to detail and a methodical working style.
  • Eagerness to learn, adapt, and grow within a fast-paced R&D or production setting.
  • Self-motivated with a proactive attitude toward continuous improvement.

Additional Information

  • Interest in photonics, semiconductors, and integrated optics.
  • Willingness to work in a design, laboratory or cleanroom.
  • Previous internship, thesis, or research experience in micro/nanofabrication or photonic device development is a plus.
  • Familiarity with GaN or III-V materials platforms is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with substrate technologies (e.g., sapphire, SiC, GaN-on-Si) and thermal management challenges is beneficial.
  • Understanding of reliability testing, packaging, or high-voltage device design is advantageous.
